DESCRIPTION: Deserted settlement cluster, Leathad Breac

GRID REF: ND 1087 3371 (centre)

SITES & MONUMENTS RECORD REF: ND13SW0075

SCHEDULED ANCIENT MONUMENT

This settlement includes two longhouses, one shorter rectangular buildiing, kiln and attached building, high mound-like structure with ruinous dray-stone built walls, yards, and enclosures.

Information from Historic Scotland (1992): "At this site are a number of houses and buildings at least two of which have been incorporated into later sheep folds. To the E are two long houses, one of which appears to have been converted into a kiln barn, and a third smaller building."

Note the linear field systems associated with the mid-19th century 'improved' landscape and later sheep farming, this overlies earlier, more organically-shaped, settlement patterns.

Height OD: 134m
